Wow, what a busy year 2014 was for Radio Wexham (RW), this blog is the definitive run-down of every event and activity we took part in!
Unfortunately towards the end of the year we had a lack of internet access to write blogs on all of the events we did, so they have been compressed in this blog with a few pictures for you all to see!
March
We had our annual AGM in March, were Station Manager Mel kicked of RW for the New Year. This is a yearly requirement that we have to undertake, but it is also a lot of fun. We hand out awards to our members and also have a buffet afterwards.
One of our big events this year was helping to fundraise for Sport Relief at Sainsbury’s. This is a good event as it raises publicity for RW, and is a great team-bonding experience for our members.
April
April saw the return in 2014 of our infamous Quiz Night’s at Farnham Royal Cricket Club, several station members attended with members of their Family, and a few won raffle prizes. Thank you to all our members who generously donated prizes for this.
May
As a Charity itself, RW is always willing to help raise vital funds for other Chairities, so in May we teamed up with Slough Fire Brigade at a Charity Car Wash in aid of Pancreatic Research.
June
The Summer season is our busiest time of year, and we kicked it off with the Stoke Poges Village Fete. It was a glorious day and our music could be heard loud and clear throughout the village. As well as playing music we also had a Tombola stall run by our members, this is the first time we had done a stall and it was a great success.
Also in June we help to host the first RUNWXM (Run Wexham) race, around the hospital’s ground and nearby fields. Participants took part in either a 1 ¼ or 5 mile race and RW were there to greet them at the end!
August
After a break from events in July, two of our members hosted the very first RW Bake Sale in the Main Reception of the Hospital. We were selling all home-made cakes and they went down a treat, look out for the next one in 2015!
The second Fete of the season was the Hedgerley Family Fun Day Fete, although this event was quite wet which a lower turnout than expected it was still a fun day, and two of our members got roped in to “It’s a Knockout! Challenge” which was very entertaining for the rest of us watching from the side-lines!
September
One of our last OBs for the year was for the Langley Leisure Centre Open Day, the Leisure Centre was re-opening after a refurb, and as one of our members worked at the Centre we were asked to come along and play some tunes.
November
November was a busy month with hosting the music for the Farnham Royal Cricket Club Fireworks. This is a great event for our members to attend as we can enjoy the lovely fireworks while raising some funds for RW; as everyone leaves towards the end of the evening we shake our buckets to passing members of the public!
We also once again teamed up with the Wexham Park RESUS Team for 24hrs of continuous CPR (and music!). We got a really good turn-out from our members this year, and you see some photos below:
Special mention to our member Ella who took part in one of the challenges set up by the hospital to see how good at CPR you are, and she scored a whopping 99% on her first attempt. The RESUS team were very impressed!
Father and Son dream team, George and Tyler hosted a very special visit to the Studio from St. John’s Ambulance. They were told how the Station operates and even had a chance to talk on-air. The kids really enjoy the visit and even sent us a special thank-you card afterwards which was really sweet.
The last event of November was another one of our great Quiz nights, arranged by our Station Manager Mel at the local cricket club. This is always a well-attended event and a lot of good fun! Thank you to all who attended and took part, if you couldn’t make it, don’t worry we’ll likely host another in 2015!
December
In December we rounded off the year with a special fancy-dress ward-round to help cheer up the Patients within Wexham Park Hospital, here’s a snap of some of our members in their outfits:
