Christmas time at any hospital is a sensitive time of year for patients, their families and the staff. In light of this on our last Thursday before Christmas, our volunteers put on their glad rags and went on a special fancy dress ward round, in the hope of spreading some festive cheer and joy. From the look on our patients’ faces it’s safe to say they succeeded!
We had a Pirate, a Princess, a Captain, a Nun, a Lifeguard, an Alice, a Dorothy and a Britney…..!!
On Christmas Eve, we also set up our equipment in the main reception, and from 10am-1pm we played festive, Christmas music non-stop, this included recent Christmas hits, the old favourites and some lovely covers of Carols. We also gave out mince pies and coffee/tea provided by the trust to staff, families and patients.
It was really lovely to be able to spread some cheer, and we had many people sat watching and taking in the music.
We were also privileged that Ellie, a lovely patient who has been in hospital for over 10 weeks was able to come and see the action and listen to some Christmas music from the comfort of her bed in the hospital’s main reception. It was a really special moment, and we all loved it.
We wish all the patients and staff at Wexham Park Hospital and the trust, a happy, and healthy 2014!
