On Friday 8th November Radio Wexham will be providing the music at the Farnham Royal Cricket Club Fireworks Display! This got us thinking about suitable songs to play during the main event, however tenuous the link these are our top 5 picks of themed songs.
Firework – Katy Perry
No list of songs to play at a firework display would be complete without “firework” by Katy Perry, this song conjures up all the correct imagery and emotions that coincide with any great display. The music video was bursting with dark scenes which then erupted with colour like the night sky does on the 5th November, this is also a great song to get the crowd pumping!
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y”
Burn – Ellie Goulding
This is a slight cheat, RW have already been to a Fireworks display this year, and this song was playing and it was rather good. Fireworks obviously burn, and the beat is punchy which makes it the perfect match. It’s always good to have a mix of current music during a display and this tune from 2013 will surely feature in displays of years to come.
‘Cause we got the fire, and we’re burning one hell of a something
They, they gonna see us from outer space, outer space
Light it up, like we’re the stars of the human race, human race”
Rocket Man – Elton John
This song came out when the Apollo Space programme (landing men on the moon) was in full swing, Neil Armstrong had already uttered his famous words and it is a 1970’s classic. Fireworks shoot up into the sky, much like the protagonist of this song..
Rule The World – Take That
Fireworks displays are great fun for families and small kids, but it can also be a romantic time of year – dark nights and hot chocolate! This song gives in to the “romanticism” of the 5th of November, after all what’s more romantic than a gunpowder, treason and plot!
If you stay with me girl, we can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side, we can rule the world.”
Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen
Nobody ever wants a fireworks display to end, this song is best well played towards the end of a display. It’s one that all ages are familiar with as is has been covered by multiple artists and on many talent shows. The dramatic start and mellow end with big notes will complement the really big fireworks which have been saved ’til last.
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I’m a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I’m gonna go go go
There’s no stopping me”
